Non-bank lender Discovery Capital Finance Corp. (DCFC) has signed a milestone credit facility agreement with BDO Unibank, Inc. (BDO), securing an expanded funding line from the country’s largest universal bank to accelerate its lending operations across the Philippines.
The credit facility combines BDO’s institutional balance sheet capacity with Discovery’s digital lending framework.
By combining these operational strengths, both institutions aim to lower credit barriers for regional businesses and accelerate capital deployment across key economic corridors in Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.
Institutional liquidity meets specialized reach
The financing agreement leverages the core capabilities of both organizations, establishing a structured mechanism for routing capital into high-potential, underserved commercial markets.
Discovery Capital Finance has expanded its footprint in the Philippine non-bank lending sector through automated processing, digital channels, and regional market penetration. The company’s operational framework relies on several core capabilities:
- End-to-end automated infrastructure: Discovery operates a digitized platform covering customer origination, algorithmic credit underwriting, and back-end loan administration. This complete system automation allows the company to execute rapid loan turnarounds while maintaining risk management standards.
- Omnichannel distribution network: The company maintains active distribution channels servicing clients across Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao, delivering capital to regional commercial centers and emerging provincial economies.
- Risk management and governance: Discovery maintains internal controls, regulatory compliance procedures, and enterprise risk management frameworks overseen by an experienced executive team.

Highlighting the operational impact of securing a credit line from BDO, Diosdado C. Salang, Jr., President and Chief Executive Officer of Discovery Capital Finance Corp., emphasized the alignment between both institutions in driving nationwide enterprise development.
“Through this partnership with the country’s number one bank, we can further cater to and expand our market throughout the country,” Salang said. “This credit line provides us with crucial funding capacity to deepen our footprint in key regional growth areas and directly address the capital needs of local businesses.”
Salang added that Discovery is actively establishing additional satellite offices across Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao to make its specialized lending products more accessible.
“Looking ahead, Discovery is projected to open an additional 10 offices nationwide by 2027 while simultaneously expanding our portfolio into real estate loan offerings,” he noted.
Supporting regional SMEs and local economies

Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) constitute over 90% of established businesses in the Philippines and account for the majority of local employment.
However, growing enterprises in provincial regions frequently face friction when securing timely credit for working capital and expansion.
By pairing BDO’s capital reserves with Discovery’s automated platform, underwriting framework, and regional field operations, the credit facility establishes a financial pipeline designed to address this credit gap. The facility will enable local business owners to scale operations, acquire equipment, and support regional employment.
Through this transaction, Discovery Capital Finance and BDO Unibank reinforce their shared commitment to deepening financial access, supporting regional business growth, and strengthening the broader Philippine economy.
