Western Union is expanding its physical remittance footprint in the Philippines through a new partnership with financial services provider JuanPay, bringing international money transfer services closer to communities across the country.

The initial rollout is expected to cover about 1,400 JuanPay locations, with the service eventually planned to reach the company’s wider network of around 2,000 company-owned and franchise-operated outlets.

The partnership gives customers another way to send and receive money internationally while accessing other everyday services at participating JuanPay locations.

Bringing remittance services closer to communities

For many Filipino families, receiving money from relatives working abroad is a regular part of managing household expenses.

While digital channels have made remittances more accessible, physical locations continue to serve customers who prefer face-to-face transactions or have limited access to reliable internet services.

JuanPay’s footprint gives Western Union another distribution channel in provincial and community-based markets, including areas with strong connections to overseas Filipino workers.

JuanPay outlets already offer services such as bills and loan payments, government transactions, pharmacy services and other consumer needs. Adding international money transfers gives customers another financial service in locations they may already visit for their daily transactions.

“Our vision for JuanPay has always been to bring essential financial services closer to Filipino communities,” said Rico Fernando M. Chico, chairman of ACM Group of Companies, JuanPay’s parent company.

1,400 outlets to get the service first

The international remittance service will initially be introduced at approximately 1,400 priority JuanPay locations.

The rollout is expected to expand progressively across JuanPay’s broader network of roughly 2,000 owned and franchised outlets, giving Western Union a larger physical presence in the country.

For customers, the expansion could mean more options for sending or receiving international transfers without having to travel farther to a dedicated remittance center.

Western Union operates a global network spanning more than 200 countries and territories, while JuanPay provides a nationwide network of non-bank financial service outlets.

The two companies are combining those networks to create a model that brings international money transfers into more community-based locations.

Physical channels remain relevant

The partnership comes as remittance providers continue to develop digital services alongside their traditional physical networks.

Western Union launched an upgraded mobile app in the Philippines in October 2025, giving customers digital options for sending and requesting money. Its current Philippine services also allow recipients to receive funds through cash pickup, bank accounts and selected mobile wallets.

Still, not every customer has the same level of access to digital financial services.

Western Union Senior Vice President and Head of Asia-Pacific Vince Tallent said multi-service physical locations continue to have an important role, particularly for customers who prefer in-person assistance or live in areas with varying levels of digital connectivity.

The JuanPay partnership therefore adds a physical component to Western Union’s broader digital strategy, allowing the company to serve customers through both online and offline channels.

More options for OFW-linked communities

The Philippines remains heavily connected to overseas employment, making convenient remittance access important for families that regularly receive money from abroad.

By placing international transfer services alongside bills, loan payments and other transactions, the partnership could make remittance-related errands more convenient for recipients.

It also reflects a wider shift in the country’s financial services sector, where companies are increasingly using partnerships and existing distribution networks to bring financial products closer to underserved and provincial communities.

As the service expands beyond its initial 1,400 locations, more JuanPay customers could gain access to Western Union’s international remittance network without having to rely exclusively on standalone remittance branches or digital channels.

For Filipino families receiving money from abroad, the expansion ultimately comes down to one thing: having another trusted place to access the money they depend on, closer to home.
