Metrobank is bringing more investment and wealth management services into its digital banking platform, allowing customers to manage everyday banking and investments through a single mobile app.

The bank’s enhanced Metrobank App now gives customers access to UITF Online, Wealth Manager and other investment tools, allowing them to build and monitor portfolios without having to switch between platforms.

The move comes as banks increasingly turn to digital channels not only for payments and deposits, but also for investment and wealth management. For customers, putting these services in the same app could make investing more accessible, particularly for those starting to build their portfolios.

Through UITF Online, Metrobank customers can invest in more than 25 Unit Investment Trust Funds (UITFs) covering different asset classes and currencies. The funds include peso- and dollar-denominated options designed for different investment objectives and risk profiles.

Customers can use the app to invest, monitor their UITF holdings, redeem investments and download statements of account. The minimum investment starts at ₱1,000, although the required amount varies depending on the fund.

The UITFs available to customers also depend on the currency of their enrolled Metrobank savings account.

To begin investing, customers can open the Metrobank App, select “UITF Online” from the menu and tap “Get Started.” They will then need to complete the required information, watch the UITF educational video, take a Suitability Assessment and assign a settlement account.

Existing UITF Online users will have their accounts automatically reflected in the app. Existing UITF investors who have yet to enroll in UITF Online can access the service by enrolling the settlement account linked to their UITF investment account.

The app also provides access to Metrobank’s Wealth Manager, giving customers additional options for managing their investments.

Through Wealth Manager, customers can buy and sell government bonds in the secondary market, view their consolidated investment portfolio and connect with a Wealth Specialist.

The service also includes Wealth Insights, Metrobank’s online resource for market and economic information, giving investors access to market updates and other investment-related insights.

Customers can enroll in Wealth Manager through the app by selecting “Wealth Manager” under the Menu or Shortcuts section. Existing clients can enter their Investment ID, while new users can sign up, designate a settlement account and accept the service’s terms and conditions.

Once the application is submitted, customers will receive an email confirming its status within 24 hours, excluding weekends and holidays.

Metrobank’s latest app enhancements reflect a broader shift in Philippine banking, where digital platforms are increasingly becoming gateways to more than basic transactions.

Instead of using mobile banking primarily to check balances, transfer money or pay bills, customers are now being given more tools to save, invest and track their overall financial position from their phones.

For banks, the shift also creates an opportunity to deepen relationships with customers by bringing investment products closer to the same digital channels they already use for everyday banking.

Metrobank said customers can access the enhanced investment features by updating to the latest version of the Metrobank App, available through the App Store, Google Play and Huawei AppGallery.

The bank is the Philippines’ second-largest private universal bank by assets, serving retail and business customers through a range of financial products and services.
