GoTyme Bank customers can now make contactless payments using iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac.

GoTyme Bank has rolled out Apple Pay support for its debit card customers in the Philippines, allowing users to make contactless payments using their iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, or Mac as digital wallets gain wider adoption in the country.

The launch comes shortly after Apple Pay officially became available in the Philippines, expanding payment options for consumers who prefer using their Apple devices for purchases in stores, apps, and online.

With the integration, GoTyme customers can add their debit cards to the Apple Wallet app and use Apple Pay anywhere contactless payments are accepted.

To make an in-store purchase, users simply double-click the side button on their iPhone or Apple Watch, authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode, and hold the device near a compatible payment terminal.

GoTyme Bank CEO Nate Clarke said the rollout forms part of the digital bank’s efforts to make everyday banking more convenient for customers.

“At GoTyme Bank, we’re constantly looking for ways to make banking more seamless for our customers. Bringing Apple Pay to GoTyme Bank customers in the Philippines gives them an easy and secure way to pay wherever they shop,” Clarke said.

The launch adds another feature to GoTyme’s growing digital payments ecosystem as competition among banks and fintech firms shifts toward improving the overall customer experience rather than simply offering digital accounts.

Beyond in-store purchases, Apple Pay can also be used for payments within mobile apps and on websites using Safari, allowing customers to complete transactions without repeatedly entering their card details, shipping information, or billing addresses.

Apple Pay uses tokenization to help protect users’ payment information.

Instead of storing the actual debit card number on a device or Apple’s servers, a unique encrypted Device Account Number is created and securely stored in the device’s Secure Element — a dedicated chip designed to safeguard payment credentials.

Each purchase is authenticated using biometric verification or a device passcode and protected by a one-time dynamic security code, reducing the risk of card details being exposed during transactions.

Customers can activate Apple Pay by opening the Wallet app on their iPhone, tapping the “+” icon, and following the prompts to add their GoTyme Bank debit card. Once set up, the card can also be used through Apple Pay on supported Apple devices linked to the same account.

Why it matters

Apple Pay’s arrival is giving Filipinos more ways to make contactless payments, but its adoption ultimately depends on banks making the service available to their customers.

By adding Apple Pay support, GoTyme Bank joins the growing list of issuers enabling the feature, reflecting how banks are increasingly competing on convenience, security, and seamless digital payment experiences as consumers move away from physical cards.
