Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. (Metrobank) has unveiled refreshed card designs for two of its popular credit card offerings — the Metrobank M Free Mastercard® and the Metrobank Cashback Visa — as the lender continues to align its retail product line with modern cardholder preferences.

While the credit cards sport an updated, minimalist look, Metrobank confirmed that all existing card benefits, fee structures, and reward programs remain unchanged.

No annual fees and daily rebates retained

The M Free Mastercard® retains its core value proposition of zero annual fees for life, targeting budget-conscious consumers looking for everyday purchasing power without recurring card maintenance costs.

Meanwhile, the refreshed Cashback Visa continues to focus on household utility and daily essentials, offering cardholders:

  • 5% rebate on groceries and telecommunications spending
  • 0.2% rebate on all other retail transactions
  • Up to ₱12,000 in cumulative annual rebates

While both cards cater to everyday spenders, they serve distinctly different financial habits:

The M Free Mastercard® is best for entry-level cardholders and low-maintenance spending. Because it carries no annual fees for life with no minimum spend required, it offers a risk-free way to maintain a credit line for emergencies or occasional purchases without worrying about recurring membership fees.

Cashback Visa, on the other hand, is built for active household spenders who want direct savings on recurring living expenses. While designed to reward frequent usage on grocery runs and mobile/internet bills through high percentage rebates, it serves as an income-generating tool for families managing consistent monthly budgets.

New applicants can request the updated card designs immediately through Metrobank’s online credit card portal.

In a press release, the bank noted that while legacy designs may still temporarily appear across certain digital touchpoints and promotional collateral during the transition, approved applicants will automatically receive the newly designed physical cards.

Metrobank, the country’s second-largest private universal bank by total assets, continues to expand its retail ecosystem alongside investments in digital banking and payment processing infrastructure.

For ordinary Filipinos still exploring the benefits of formal banking, products like fee-free and cashback cards serve as accessible entry points into digital finance.

Beyond cosmetic updates, entry-level credit tools allow consumers to manage monthly cash flow, earn tangible rewards on essential household expenses like groceries and mobile data, and build a verifiable credit history — a vital step toward securing future capital for life goals, home loans, or small business ventures.

Metrobank is regulated by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
