Opening a bank account often starts with the same routine: finding a valid ID, taking a clear photo of it, and hoping it passes verification. GoTyme Bank wants to remove that step altogether.
The digital bank has partnered with the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) to integrate directly with the government’s National ID Authentication Services (NIDAS), allowing eligible customers to verify their identity against their PhilSys record instead of uploading a photo of a government-issued ID.
The integration makes GoTyme Bank one of the first banks in the country to connect directly to the PSA’s authentication platform, enabling customers to open an account in as little as five minutes through a simpler digital onboarding process.
A simpler way to verify your identity

Instead of uploading identification documents, customers can verify their identity by scanning the QR code on their physical, digital, or printed National ID, entering their PhilSys Card Number (PCN), or providing their name and date of birth.
The information is then checked against official government records through the PSA’s authentication service.
For many Filipinos, that could remove one of the biggest pain points when opening a bank account online.
Anyone who has struggled with blurry ID photos, failed verification attempts, or repeated document uploads knows how quickly a supposedly “digital” process can become frustrating. By removing the document capture step, GoTyme hopes more applicants can complete the process on their first attempt.
Supporting wider financial inclusion

The rollout comes as more banks begin incorporating digital identity into their customer onboarding systems.
According to the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), millions of Filipino adults remain unbanked or underbanked, with the lack of acceptable identification continuing to be one of the biggest barriers to opening formal bank accounts.
At the same time, more than 94 million Filipinos have already registered under the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), creating an opportunity for financial institutions to simplify identity verification using government-backed digital infrastructure.
Shern Teo, Chief Strategy and Proposition Officer at GoTyme Bank, said the direct integration allows the bank to verify identities in real time while making the process easier for customers.
“With our direct integration into the National ID Authentication Services, GoTyme Bank can verify a customer’s identity against official government records in real time, making account opening simpler, faster, and more secure,” Teo said.
He added that eligible customers can now open an account in as little as five minutes with fewer verification steps.
“We are simplifying banking and making it easier for more Filipinos to access the financial services they need, unlocking the full potential of every Filipino.”
Digital identity moves beyond the ID card

Beyond convenience, the partnership signals how the National ID is gradually evolving from a physical identification card into digital infrastructure that supports everyday services.
Over the past year, Philippine banks have increasingly integrated PhilSys into their onboarding processes as part of broader efforts to strengthen Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance, reduce fraud, and make financial services more accessible. Instead of asking customers to repeatedly submit physical documents, institutions are beginning to rely on secure digital identity verification backed by government records.
For GoTyme Bank, the latest integration builds on that momentum. More importantly, it reflects a broader shift in Philippine banking, where opening an account is becoming less about paperwork and more about securely confirming who you are.
As more financial institutions adopt PhilSys-enabled authentication, the process of opening a bank account could become as simple as taking out a smartphone, taking a selfie or entering a few details, and securely verifying an identity in minutes.
