Traveling Filipinos may have one less connectivity decision to make before heading overseas as Smart Communications, Inc. introduces ROAM+, an annual roaming wallet bundled with select Smart Infinity Plans.

Instead of purchasing a separate roaming allocation for every international trip, Infinity members can use their allotted roaming data across multiple journeys within a 365-day contract year.

The benefit provides up to 40GB of international roaming data, credited at the beginning of the member’s contract year.

The company said the new offering is designed to make roaming more predictable and convenient for frequent travelers, while keeping their primary Smart number and connectivity under a single bill.

Members can also monitor their remaining ROAM+ balance through the Smart App.

The annual roaming allocation varies depending on the Infinity Plan.

Infinity Plan 3500 members receive 6GB, while Infinity Plan 5000 comes with 20GB. Infinity Plan 8000 offers 30GB, and the Infinity Plan 9500 provides the maximum allocation of 40GB.

From trip-by-trip roaming to an annual digital wallet

The move reflects a broader shift in how digital services are being packaged for consumers.

Rather than treating international connectivity as a separate, trip-by-trip purchase, the telco is positioning roaming as an ongoing service that is built into a premium subscription.

For Filipinos who travel frequently for business or leisure, that distinction can translate into fewer transactions and less preparation before each trip.

Mobile data has also become increasingly tied to other digital services used while traveling, from navigation and ride-hailing to accommodation bookings, digital payments, translation tools, and communication with family and colleagues.

“Connectivity is the one thing you shouldn’t have to think about while traveling,” said Tina Montinola, Head of Smart Infinity. “With ROAM+, Infinity Plans just got better, giving our members added convenience and a more seamless connectivity experience that is ready before the journey, throughout the trip, and for the next one.”

Lloyd R. Manaloto, First Vice President and OIC of Smart, said the product represents a change in how premium roaming can be delivered.

“ROAM+ represents a shift in how premium roaming can be designed, that is, from a service that customers arrange for individual trips into an annual roaming wallet that is ready whenever they need it,” Manaloto said.

Beyond roaming, plan members receive other premium services, including Worldwide Concierge Services, complimentary airport lounge access, access to the Infinity Collection, dedicated Relationship Manager support, and 24/7 priority assistance at Smart Stores nationwide.

ROAM+ also highlights how telecommunications providers are increasingly turning connectivity into subscription-based digital services.

The annual wallet model gives customers a defined pool of data that they can draw from when needed, similar to how consumers have become accustomed to managing balances and allowances through digital apps.

For the telco firm, the approach puts the emphasis on convenience: one mobile number, one bill, an annual roaming allocation, and app-based visibility into remaining data.

As more Filipinos rely on their smartphones for everything from travel bookings to cashless payments while abroad, reliable connectivity is becoming less of a luxury and more of the infrastructure behind the digital travel experience.
