Metrobank Maya cash-in fees are set to become significantly more expensive as the bank begins charging a 5% quasi-cash fee on credit card-funded Maya transactions starting August 15.

According to the bank’s updated credit card rates and fees, the 5% fee will apply to Maya “Cash-In” and “Add Money” transactions made using Metrobank-issued credit cards. The fee is listed across the bank’s credit card products, including its Visa and Mastercard offerings.

The change effectively treats funding a Maya wallet with a Metrobank credit card as a cash-like transaction rather than an ordinary retail purchase.

Credit-funded wallet top-ups become more expensive

Metrobank defines quasi-cash transactions as purchases or services that can be converted into, or are equivalent to, cash. These include fund transfers, money orders, account funding, cash-ins, and similar transactions determined by the bank.

Under its credit card terms and conditions, quasi-cash transactions are subject to a separate quasi-cash fee.

For example, a ₱10,000 Maya cash-in using an affected Metrobank credit card would translate to a ₱500 quasi-cash fee from Metrobank alone.

That makes the choice of funding method increasingly important for users who move credit into an e-wallet before spending or transferring it elsewhere.

Maya also maintains its own charges for card-funded wallet top-ups. Its current table of fees lists a fixed ₱200 charge per debit or credit card cash-in made through JCB, Mastercard, or Visa.

Users should therefore review the fees displayed before confirming a transaction, as charges imposed by Maya and a card-issuing bank are governed separately.

Metrobank is also adjusting PayNow fees

Another credit card-based money transfer service is getting a fee adjustment on the same day.

Metrobank’s PayNow service allows eligible cardholders to use their Metrobank credit card to send money to individual bank or e-wallet accounts in the Philippines.

Starting August 15, its processing fee will increase from ₱25 or up to 1.5% of the transaction amount, whichever is higher, to ₱25 or up to 1.65%, whichever is higher.

The changes highlight the growing distinction between using credit cards for regular purchases and using them to move funds into accounts that can function much like cash.

Bank transfers remain a different route

The new 5% charge does not mean all transfers between Metrobank and Maya will carry the same fee.

Moving money from a Metrobank deposit account through InstaPay remains a separate transaction. Metrobank reduced its InstaPay fee to ₱8 per transaction in February 2026.

For consumers, that makes the source of funds increasingly important.

Using available money from a bank account, funding an e-wallet using a credit card, and sending money through a credit-based service may all lead to the same destination, but the cost can be very different.

With the new Metrobank fee taking effect on August 15, cardholders who regularly use credit to top up their Maya wallets may want to check the applicable fees before their next cash-in.
