Select subscribers of Smart Communications were among the first in the country to experience the new Samsung Galaxy S26 Series, as the telco hosted an exclusive early release event ahead of the device’s official launch.

Held at SM Megamall earlier this month, the event brought together Smart Postpaid users, Samsung enthusiasts, and early adopters for a preview of the latest flagship smartphone, highlighting new artificial intelligence (AI) features and enhanced mobile capabilities.

The launch comes as telcos and device manufacturers continue to position AI-enabled smartphones as the next frontier in mobile innovation, with connectivity playing a central role in unlocking these features.

AI-driven features take center stage

Interactive activities showcased features such as Generative Edit and Photo Assist, as well as advanced camera capabilities including improved zoom and low-light video performance.

According to Rhomel Marcojos of Samsung Electronics Philippines, the latest lineup reflects the evolution of AI in smartphones.

“We’re introducing more than just a smartphone — it’s an AI phone designed for a generation that creates, shares, and lives in real time,” he said.

Marcojos added that the device integrates both everyday AI tools and more advanced “agentic AI” capabilities that can understand user context and perform tasks more intuitively.

Connectivity remains key to AI adoption

During the event, attendees were given hands-on access to the Galaxy S26 Series, with demonstrations focused on its AI-powered tools designed to enhance productivity and content creation.

Niki Flojo of Smart emphasized that reliable connectivity remains critical in maximizing these AI-driven features.

“With Smart 5G, subscribers get the fast and reliable connectivity needed to fully enjoy AI-powered features — from streaming and sharing to cloud-based tools and real-time experiences,” she said.

The push aligns with broader industry trends where telecom providers are bundling devices, connectivity, and digital services to drive adoption of next-generation technologies.

Trade-in program aims to boost device upgrades

Alongside the early access event, Smart and Samsung introduced a trade-in program exclusive to postpaid and Infinity subscribers.

The initiative allows customers to exchange their current devices when upgrading to the Galaxy S26 Series, with potential savings of up to 45% or up to P14,000 off, as part of efforts to make premium smartphones more accessible.

The program also reflects a growing focus among telcos on customer retention and device lifecycle management through upgrade incentives and bundled offers.

Premium experience for high-value subscribers

Separately, Smart Infinity hosted a private preview event in Makati for its high-tier members, offering an early look at the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra models.

The gathering featured curated experiences and personalized service, including device unboxing sessions led by dedicated relationship managers.

According to Tina Montinola, the initiative reflects the brand’s focus on combining premium technology with lifestyle-driven experiences.

Early adopters drive demand

Early users who attended the Megamall event cited productivity and content creation as key reasons for upgrading.

Some participants highlighted the device’s AI features and camera improvements as practical tools for work and daily use, particularly for tasks such as presentations, content editing, and mobile communications.

The early rollout of the Galaxy S26 Series underscores how AI is increasingly shaping the smartphone market, with manufacturers and telecom providers working together to deliver more integrated digital experiences.

As competition intensifies, industry players are expected to continue investing in AI capabilities, connectivity infrastructure, and customer-centric offerings to differentiate their services.

For Smart, initiatives like early access events and trade-in programs form part of a broader strategy to bring new technologies closer to Filipino consumers while strengthening subscriber engagement.
