Three awards recognize sustainability efforts

The Jollibee Group received Gold in the Waste Management and Responsible Consumption, Production and Manufacturing category for its Zero Waste in Action initiative and another Gold in Energy Efficiency for Project Scale Up. It also received Silver in Water Management and Efficiency for Project Hugas.

The two Gold-winning initiatives will advance to the regional competition scheduled for November, extending the company’s sustainability efforts beyond the local awards.

Cutting water use across operations

Project Hugas focuses on reducing water consumption across the Group’s Manufacturing and Logistics operations.

The project redesigned water-intensive processes by replacing traditional crate washing with optimized pan-washing systems and introducing demand-based water pressure controls.

Since its 2020 baseline, the initiative has reduced water consumption by 301,000 cubic meters, equivalent to roughly 120 Olympic-size swimming pools. This was achieved even as production increased by 30%, according to the Group.

Energy efficiency meets business efficiency

Project Scale Up applies energy-saving technologies and equipment improvements across 10 commissaries and one logistics warehouse. The initiative focuses on equipment upgrades, utility optimization, and other measures designed to reduce electricity consumption.

In 2025 alone, the project reduced electricity use by 1.47 million kilowatt-hours, equivalent to the annual electricity consumption of around 612 households, while production increased by 30%.

The results show how sustainability projects can also support operational efficiency by reducing resource consumption without slowing business growth.

Turning food manufacturing waste into an opportunity

The Group’s Zero Waste in Action initiative addresses waste generated throughout food manufacturing and distribution, including plastic packaging and food waste.

The program focuses on reducing waste at its source while moving operations toward a more circular model. From its baseline, the initiative has reduced total waste by 8 million kilograms, equivalent to preventing around 800 garbage trucks’ worth of waste from reaching landfills. This represents a 40% reduction in waste despite a 30% increase in production volume.

Sustainability behind the scenes

The Jollibee Group ESG awards reinforce the role of behind-the-scenes operations in advancing corporate sustainability. While manufacturing and logistics may be less visible to consumers than restaurant operations, changes in these areas can have a significant impact across the company’s supply chain.

The initiatives form part of the Jollibee Group’s Joy for Tomorrow sustainability agenda, which focuses on Food, People, and Planet. The latest recognitions build on the Group’s two Gold awards at the inaugural 2025 Inquirer ESG Edge Impact Awards.

For the Jollibee Group, the latest awards underscore a broader shift in sustainability: environmental improvements do not necessarily have to come at the expense of business performance. When resource efficiency, waste reduction, and operational improvements work together, sustainability can become part of how a business grows.
