Philippine National Bank (PNB) has appointed veteran banking executive Modette Ines Cariño as the new head of its International Banking and Remittance Group, effective September 19, reinforcing the bank’s leadership team as it continues to strengthen its global banking and remittance business.

The appointment was approved by PNB’s Board of Directors during its meeting on July 24.

Veteran executive takes on new leadership role

Cariño currently serves as Senior Vice President and Assistant to the President. Before assuming her new role, she led PNB’s Consumer Credit Division under the Retail Lending Group as First Vice President.

Her appointment follows nearly two decades of service at PNB, where she has held key leadership positions across consumer banking, lending, and business development.

Cariño began her career at the bank as a Business Development Officer under the Consumer Finance Group before overseeing PNB’s 14 Regional Consumer Finance Centers nationwide.

Nearly two decades of banking experience

Throughout her career, Cariño has held several leadership positions within the PNB Group.

In 2015, she was seconded to PNB Savings Bank as head of its Consumer Banking Group before being appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of PNB-IBJL Leasing and Finance in 2016.

She returned to PNB in 2019 to head the Retail Lending – Metro Manila Sales Division before later becoming Assistant to the President.

Prior to joining PNB, Cariño gained extensive experience in consumer lending through roles at Security Bank Corp., International Exchange Bank, and Union Bank of the Philippines.

She earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce, major in Accounting, from De La Salle University.

Strengthening PNB’s international banking business

Cariño’s appointment comes as banks continue expanding their cross-border banking services and remittance capabilities to better serve overseas Filipinos and international clients.

With extensive experience in retail banking, consumer finance, and executive leadership, she is expected to help strengthen PNB’s international banking and remittance operations as the bank continues to expand its presence in both the domestic and international markets.
