Security Bank Corporation and its investment banking arm, Security Bank Capital Investment Corporation, have earned three recognitions at the Asian Banking & Finance Awards 2026, highlighting the group’s efforts in digital banking, corporate transformation, and sustainable project finance.
Security Bank’s Retail Banking Segment received the Mobile Banking & Payment Initiative of the Year – Philippines award, while its Wholesale Banking Segment was named Domestic Digital Transformation Bank of the Year. Meanwhile, Security Bank Capital won Syndicated Loan of the Year – Philippines for its role in the ₱150 billion senior term loan facility for Terra Solar Philippines, Inc.
The three recognitions reflect Security Bank Group’s BetterBanking strategy, which focuses on making financial services easier to access, helping businesses improve their operations through digital solutions, and supporting projects with broader economic and sustainability goals.
Security Bank recognized for mobile banking innovation
Security Bank’s Retail Banking Segment won Mobile Banking & Payment Initiative of the Year – Philippines for digital improvements designed to simplify the account opening and banking experience.
Through the Security Bank app, customers can open an account digitally using electronic know-your-customer or eKYC capabilities. The process combines biometric verification and identity validation, allowing users to complete onboarding without going through the traditional branch-based account opening process.
According to Security Bank, the digital onboarding capability has enabled more than 23,000 new-to-bank customers to open accounts through the app since its launch. The initiative supports the wider push to make formal financial services more accessible through digital channels.
Existing customers can also use the app to open additional accounts and access digital credit features, including installment conversion, balance transfers, and credit-to-cash facilities.
“Digital innovation only matters if it makes banking easier for customers,” said Myla Untalan, Senior Vice President and Strategic Projects Head of Security Bank. “We’re continuously improving our digital platforms to help customers bank more conveniently, securely, and confidently wherever they are.”
The recognition comes as Philippine banks continue to compete on digital customer experience, with mobile apps increasingly serving as the primary channel for account management, payments, transfers, and other everyday financial transactions.
Digital transformation for corporate clients
Security Bank’s Wholesale Banking Segment was also recognized as Domestic Digital Transformation Bank of the Year for its efforts to integrate banking capabilities more directly into corporate clients’ operations.
A key initiative is its QRPay via API solution, which allows businesses to integrate QR payment generation, processing, and reporting into their internal systems.
Rather than relying entirely on separate banking portals and manual processes, businesses can connect certain payment functions directly to their own systems. This can help automate workflows and reduce the manual work involved in managing payment transactions.
Security Bank said the solution saw transaction count grow by 284% and transaction volume increase by 187% between 2024 and 2025, reflecting growing adoption among its clients.
The approach reflects a broader shift in business banking toward API-based services, where financial institutions provide infrastructure that can be embedded into the systems companies already use.
“Businesses increasingly expect banking to integrate seamlessly into their operations,” said Jones Diokno, Senior Vice President and Deposits Business Group Head of Security Bank. “Through API-enabled solutions, we’re helping clients automate processes, improve efficiency, and support their own digital transformation journeys.”
For companies managing large numbers of payments and transactions, automation can reduce repetitive administrative work while allowing payment processes to scale alongside business growth.
₱150 billion financing for Terra Solar
The third recognition went to Security Bank Capital, which received Syndicated Loan of the Year – Philippines for the ₱150 billion, 15-year senior term loan facility arranged for Terra Solar Philippines, Inc.
The financing supports the development of what Security Bank described as the world’s largest integrated solar and battery storage project as of 2025. The transaction is also among the largest project finance deals in the Philippines.
Large-scale renewable energy projects often require complex and long-term financing structures because of their significant capital requirements and extended development timelines.
Security Bank Capital said the financing included features intended to make long-term infrastructure funding more flexible while potentially providing a framework for similar transactions in emerging markets.
“This transaction reflects our ability to structure innovative financing solutions for landmark infrastructure projects,” said Virgilio Chua, President and CEO of Security Bank Capital. “We’re proud to help mobilize capital for projects that support national development while delivering value for our clients and partners.”
The deal highlights the role financial institutions and investment banks can play in supporting the Philippines’ energy transition, particularly as the country works to expand renewable energy capacity and strengthen its power infrastructure.
Combining banking expertise for large projects
Security Bank said the Terra Solar transaction also demonstrated how its banking and investment banking businesses can work together on complex financing requirements.
Yvonne Marcelo, Executive Vice President and Corporate Banking Head of Security Bank, said collaboration across the group helped bring together the expertise needed for the project.
“At Security Bank, collaboration is at the heart of how we serve our clients,” Marcelo said. “Together with Security Bank Capital, we combined our strengths to help bring this landmark project to life, demonstrating how integrated expertise can create meaningful outcomes for our clients and the communities they serve.”
The award comes as sustainable finance continues to become an increasingly important part of banking and capital markets. Beyond funding traditional business expansion, financial institutions are also being called on to help mobilize capital for renewable energy, infrastructure, and projects tied to long-term development goals.
For Security Bank Capital, the recognition adds to its recent activity in domestic debt capital markets and project financing, including transactions supporting renewable energy and energy storage projects.
Three awards reflect a broader banking strategy
Taken together, the three awards cover different parts of the Security Bank Group’s operations, from the individual customer opening an account through a mobile app to a corporate client automating payment workflows and a major infrastructure project securing long-term financing.
The mobile banking recognition points to the growing importance of simpler and more accessible digital customer journeys. The wholesale banking award highlights how companies are increasingly looking for financial services that can integrate with their existing systems. Meanwhile, the project finance recognition shows how banking expertise can support large-scale infrastructure and sustainability initiatives.
These areas are increasingly interconnected as banks invest in technology to improve customer experience while building more sophisticated capabilities for businesses and capital markets.
Security Bank has positioned these initiatives under its BetterBanking strategy, which focuses on making banking simpler, faster, and more responsive to the needs of customers and businesses.
Security Bank builds on digital and sustainable finance efforts
The latest recognitions add to Security Bank’s list of awards in 2026, including previous recognition for mobile banking and payments technology from The Asian Banker Global Financial Technology Innovation Awards.
Earlier this year, the bank received awards for its mobile banking technology and payment infrastructure, reflecting its continued investment in digital platforms and transaction capabilities.
For Security Bank Group, the three Asian Banking & Finance Awards recognitions reinforce its efforts to use technology and financial expertise across different customer segments.
From digital account opening and API-enabled payments to one of the country’s largest project finance transactions, the awards show how the group is pursuing growth across retail banking, wholesale banking, and investment banking.
As digital banking adoption accelerates and the Philippines requires more financing for major infrastructure and renewable energy projects, these capabilities could become increasingly important. Security Bank’s latest recognitions point to a strategy that extends beyond introducing new technology, focusing instead on how digital tools and financial solutions can be applied to everyday banking, business operations, and projects with broader development impact.
