RCBC Piso Fare promo has been extended until August 31, giving eligible commuters another month to enjoy ₱1 rides on LRT-2 through the MySSS Card Powered by RCBC DiskarTech. The extension follows strong commuter participation since the campaign launched in July and supports the continued adoption of contactless fare payments in Metro Manila.

Promo Extension Follows Strong Adoption
Originally scheduled to end on July 31, the RCBC Piso Fare promo was extended after seeing significant growth in usage. According to RCBC, unique MySSS Card users tapping into the LRT-2 network increased by 95% within two weeks of the launch, while total transit transactions rose 57%. Weekly MySSS Card availment also grew by nearly 40%, reflecting increasing demand for digital fare payments.

Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez welcomed the extension, saying the additional savings could help commuters allocate more of their budget to essential expenses such as food, medicine, and school allowances.
How the ₱1 Fare Promo Works
Eligible MySSS Card Powered by RCBC DiskarTech holders with verified and active accounts can continue using the promo until August 31. Commuters simply tap their card at any LRT-2 turnstile to pay the regular fare. The amount exceeding ₱1 is automatically returned as cashback to their RCBC DiskarTech account within three banking days.
Each eligible cardholder may enjoy the discounted fare for up to eight qualified rides per day. Beginning with the ninth trip, standard LRT-2 fares will apply. RCBC Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cardholders may also participate under their respective promo mechanics, although these offers cannot be combined with existing senior citizen, PWD, or student fare discounts.
Advancing Contactless Public Transport
The extended RCBC Piso Fare promo builds on the rollout of the LRT-2 Automated Fare Collection System, which introduced contactless payments across all stations through a partnership involving RCBC, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA), the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, and Visa. The system has since expanded to support Mastercard and other digital payment options, making public transportation more accessible through cashless transactions.
As digital payments become increasingly integrated into daily commuting, initiatives such as the Piso Fare promo demonstrate how financial institutions and government agencies are using digital payment technologies to improve convenience while helping commuters reduce transportation costs.
