Payments via Apple Pay and Google Pay are now available to students of the University of Santo Tomas (UST), providing the Thomasian community with expanded digital options for settling university transactions.

The new payment methods can be used through UST’s Online Payment Gateway and at authorized on-site payment channels, according to an announcement from the Office of the Vice Rector for Finance. The options take effect immediately.

The development comes as mobile-based payments become increasingly integrated into everyday consumer transactions, including tuition and institutional fees. The university has steadily expanded its digital services and online platforms to streamline payment processes for students, faculty, and administrative staff.

Expanded wallet options

With the integration, users can pay using compatible credit or debit cards stored in Apple Pay or Google Pay when transacting through supported UST channels.

UST Students Can Now Pay With Apple Pay and Google Pay

The move allows students to complete transactions without relying solely on physical payment cards, manual bank transfers, or over-the-counter cash payments, provided the university’s payment gateway supports the respective digital wallet interface.

Apple Pay and Google Pay are mobile payment platforms that allow users to make payments using compatible smartphones and other supported devices. Both use contactless payment technology and security features designed to protect users’ card information during transactions.

For students, the addition could make payments more convenient, particularly for those who already use their smartphones as their primary payment device.

What UST students need to know

The new payment options apply to transactions made through the UST Online Payment Gateway and authorized on-site channels. Students should verify whether a particular transaction or payment terminal supports Apple Pay or Google Pay before attempting to pay.

The integration fits into a broader shift toward digital-first services across the university’s student ecosystem. UST currently provides online systems for functions including freshman enrollment and administrative services.

For students, the change is relatively simple and streamlines routine campus payments: if their eligible card is already stored in Apple Pay or Google Pay, they can use their device instead of carrying a physical card.

A more digital campus payment experience

The addition of Apple Pay and Google Pay reflects how universities are adapting payment systems to the habits of a digitally connected student population.

As mobile wallets become more widely accepted in the Philippines, integrating them into academic payment channels could reduce friction in everyday transactions while giving students greater flexibility in settling fees.

For UST, the move adds another layer to its growing digital ecosystem, allowing students to complete eligible payments using the devices they already carry every day.
