Maya is accelerating its customer verification pipeline by linking the government’s National ID architecture with its homegrown artificial intelligence systems, offering a clear model for how shared digital infrastructure can simplify access to financial services.
The integration comes as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) prepares to mandate BSP-supervised financial institutions to adopt National ID authentication services for customer due diligence (KYC) and identity verification across the sector.
Direct verification via National ID

By connecting to the Philippine Statistics Authority’s (PSA) National ID eVerify platform, Maya allows eligible users to upgrade their accounts without uploading physical ID cards or taking photos of documents.
Customers enter their National ID number, complete a video selfie for facial matching, and have their identity validated directly against official government records. Maya prompts users only for missing information, while those unable to complete eVerify are routed to standard document uploads without losing their progress.
“National digital infrastructure gives us a trusted foundation to build on,” said Alfred Lo, Chief Technology Officer at Maya. “By combining the National ID with homegrown AI and automation, we can remove friction for customers while keeping verification robust and scalable.”
84% faster turnaround time

To process requests, Maya uses “agentic AI”—automated workflows designed to perform specific tasks within strict control parameters—for KYC verification and account deduplication. The system checks incoming data, identifies potential duplicate registrations, and routes complex cases to human compliance teams.
The system has yielded substantial operational improvements:
- 84% reduction in overall consumer onboarding time.
- Faster processing for new and upgrading account holders.
- Efficient resource allocation, allowing compliance staff to focus on higher-risk fraud investigations and exception handling.
Maya presented the implementation at the recent BSP AI Summit, themed “From Pilot to Practice: AI Adoption in the Philippine Financial Sector,” where it was among three institutions invited to demonstrate live AI applications.
“For us, the real test of AI is not how advanced the model sounds. It is whether it solves a real customer problem safely, reliably, and at scale,” said Melecio Valerio, Head of Data Governance at Maya.
The onboarding update forms part of Maya’s broader operational strategy, which embeds machine learning, decision engines, behavioral scoring, and automated anomaly detection across its credit scoring, fraud prevention, and customer support operations.
