As financial services providers accelerate digital transformation efforts, Cebuana Lhuillier is looking inward for its next wave of innovation — empowering employees across the organization to develop solutions that improve operations, customer experience, and business efficiency.
The country’s largest microfinance provider has expanded its employee innovation program, We-Nnovate, as part of broader efforts to foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation across its nationwide network.
In a press release, the company said the initiative encourages employees, known internally as Ka-Cebuanas, to generate ideas, collaborate across departments, and develop solutions that address operational challenges and evolving customer needs. The program reflects a growing trend among financial institutions to harness internal talent and frontline insights as technology continues to reshape the industry.
“Innovation is most powerful when it improves lives at the community level. Our people are in the best position to understand these realities—and to build solutions that truly matter,” said Jean Henri Lhuillier, President and CEO of Cebuana Lhuillier.
Building innovation from within
Rather than limiting innovation to technology teams, We-Nnovate is designed to involve employees across various functions, allowing them to contribute ideas that can enhance workplace practices, streamline processes, and improve customer interactions.
At the core of the program is We Champion, an initiative focused on strengthening innovation capabilities through communities of practice and centers of excellence. The program encourages employees to share expertise and develop skills in emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence.
As AI adoption gains momentum across industries, organizations are increasingly investing in workforce readiness to ensure employees can effectively leverage new technologies. Cebuana Lhuillier’s approach combines technical learning with peer-to-peer collaboration, creating opportunities for employees to learn from colleagues with specialized knowledge.
The company has also introduced We Collab, a platform that promotes cross-functional collaboration among departments. By bringing together employees with different areas of expertise, the initiative aims to develop more comprehensive approaches to problem-solving and innovation.

Beyond internal collaboration, Cebuana Lhuillier is expanding employee exposure to emerging technologies and industry developments through We Ignite, which connects teams with external experts, technology partners, and thought leaders through learning sessions and live demonstrations.
The initiative comes as financial institutions increasingly explore the use of AI, automation, and digital technologies to improve customer service, strengthen operational efficiency, and enhance financial inclusion efforts.
Meanwhile, programs such as We Envision and We Think encourage employees to identify opportunities for improvement within their day-to-day work. Through dedicated ideation sessions and structured innovation activities, employees are given avenues to transform operational insights into actionable solutions.
Promising ideas may then progress through We Pitch, where concepts can be refined, evaluated, and potentially developed for implementation across the organization.
Innovation as a competitive advantage
According to Jo-Ann Tacorda, First Vice President and Group Head for Corporate Services, empowering employees to contribute ideas is key to creating sustainable impact.
“Meaningful innovation happens when employees are empowered to improve operations, collaborate across teams, and turn everyday insights into solutions that create real impact for the communities we serve,” she said.
As competition intensifies across financial services and fintech sectors, organizations are increasingly recognizing that innovation extends beyond technology investments alone. Cultivating a workforce capable of identifying challenges, embracing new technologies, and developing practical solutions is becoming an important component of long-term business resilience and growth.
For Cebuana Lhuillier, that strategy starts with empowering employees to become active participants in the company’s digital transformation journey — turning everyday insights into innovations that can scale across its operations and better serve millions of Filipinos nationwide.
