Cryptocurrency platform Coins.ph has pledged ₱3 million to support relief efforts for communities affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck southern Mindanao this week.

The donation will be channelled through Angat Pinas, a non-profit organization known for its disaster response and community assistance initiatives, to help provide immediate aid to families displaced by the disaster.

According to relief organizers, some of the hardest-hit areas include General Santos City and the municipality of Maasim, which reportedly experienced Intensity 7 to 8 ground shaking.

Significant tremors were also recorded across Alabel and other parts of Sarangani Province, affecting more than 1.4 million residents across impacted communities.

The funding will be used to support the procurement and distribution of essential supplies, including food packs and clean drinking water, for families currently staying in evacuation centres and temporary shelters.

Relief teams are prioritizing communities that suffered extensive infrastructure damage and disruptions to basic services following the earthquake.

Part of the initiative will also support the care of displaced animals, including cats and dogs affected by the disaster, recognizing the important role pets and companion animals play in many households and communities.

“In the wake of the recent devastating earthquake, our priority at Coins.ph has been to empower the responders who are delivering hope directly to Mindanao,” said Wei Zhou, Chief Executive Officer of Coins.ph.

“This support is vital because these ongoing relief operations provide immediate, practical aid to displaced families where it is needed most. For us, this is about standing in solidarity with the communities we serve and ensuring that critical lifelines remain available as they rebuild and recover,” he added.

Founded to mobilize resources for disaster relief, public health, education, and community development programs, Angat Pinas has become one of the country’s most visible civic initiatives during times of crisis. The organization has led and coordinated fundraising and relief efforts in response to typhoons, floods, volcanic eruptions, and other emergencies, working with volunteers, private sector partners, and local communities to deliver assistance where it is most needed.

Angat Pinas welcomed the contribution, noting that additional resources are needed as relief operations continue to expand across affected areas.

“In times of disaster, every act of solidarity matters,” said Raffy Magno, Executive Director of Angat Pinas.

“We are grateful to Coins.ph for standing with earthquake-affected communities in Mindanao and helping ensure that timely assistance reaches areas that need it most.”

Relief operations are currently being coordinated with local responders in General Santos City and neighbouring municipalities, with efforts focused on delivering essential supplies to severely affected communities. Both organizations said the immediate priority is ensuring that displaced families have access to food, safe drinking water, and other basic necessities as recovery efforts begin.

Coins.ph also encouraged its users and the wider public to support ongoing relief efforts through Angat Pinas’ official donation channels as humanitarian operations continue in the region.
