A mobile phone is used to scan QRPH code to show how Tonik's  revolutionary "Zero-fee" QRPH payments can empower merchants

Tonik unleashes revolutionary “Zero-fee” QRPH payments, empowering 675,000+ merchants

Tonik, the pioneering digital-only bank in the Philippines, has today activated QRPH transfers within its mobile application. This significant enhancement now allows users to effortlessly send, receive, and make payments nationwide with a simple scan — all entirely free of charge until August 31.

This move solidifies Tonik’s commitment to making digital banking not just accessible, but genuinely advantageous for Filipinos.

The digital leap: Why QRPH codes are dominating payments

The strategic importance of this launch cannot be overstated. In the Philippines, QR codes have swiftly surpassed traditional card payments, a trend underscored by recent data from Visa. Their reports indicate that a remarkable 55% of Filipinos utilized QR for payments in 2023, significantly outpacing the 32% who opted for card taps. This rapid adoption highlights a clear preference for digital, scan-and-pay solutions among consumers.

With this new feature, Tonik customers gain the ability to make instant payments at over 675,000 merchants and handle transactions with 1,824 billers across the national QRPH rail. This network represents the largest digital payment ecosystem in the country, ensuring unparalleled reach and convenience for Tonik users.

Unlocking seamless transactions: What you can do now

The integration of QRPH into the Tonik app unlocks a suite of powerful capabilities for users, streamlining everyday financial interactions:

  • Send instant transfers to any QRPH-enabled bank or digital wallet.
  • Receive money effortlessly via your own personalized Tonik QR.
  • Shop and dine by simply scanning the merchant’s QR code at checkout.
  • Pay bills instantly, eliminating the need to scroll through extensive biller lists.

All QRPH transactions initiated within the Tonik app will be completely fee-free throughout this launch window, encouraging widespread adoption and maximizing user benefits. The launch promo waives transfer fees through August 31, 2025, as Tonik deepens payments ecosystem.

Adding delight: A touch of magic to every scan

Beyond mere functionality, Tonik is injecting an element of fun into the payment experience.

After each successful QR scan, the app delivers a surprise “fortune scratch card” directly in-app. This playful touch serves as a refreshing reminder that daily banking can, and should, be a source of delight rather than dread. It’s a testament to Tonik’s brand philosophy of making finance engaging and user-friendly.

Propelling growth: A roadmap to profitable scale

This significant payments push by Tonik is built upon a foundation of impressive growth demonstrated over the past year. The bank has successfully disbursed ₱6.7 billion in loans, marking a robust 2.3x year-on-year increase, while simultaneously processing an astounding ₱26 billion in payment volume, a 1.3x year-on-year surge.

The introduction of QRPH is the latest strategic move in Tonik’s deliberate product cadence, meticulously designed to achieve profitable scale and solidify its market leadership.

“Filipinos come to Tonik for the loan, but they stay for the banking experience,” affirmed Greg Krasnov, Founder and CEO of Tonik. “QRPH lets us fold everyday payments into that experience — instant, secure and, frankly, more fun than banking has any right to be.”
