Roxas City adopts Paleng-QR Ph Plus starting Dec. 5, 2024 to enhance market transactions

The City Government of Roxas has officially adopted the Paleng-QR Ph Plus system in a move aimed to modernize local markets and improve efficiency.

Roxas City, Capiz Vice Mayor Teresa H. Almalbis (second from right) buys fruits, using QR codes during the Paleng-QR Ph Plus program launch at the city’s Paseo del Rio Teodoro Arcenas Trade Center.

This innovative technology, spearheaded by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), aims to promote cashless transactions in public markets and transport hubs using QR codes, encouraging business owners and tricycle drivers to adopt digital payments as part of broader efforts to foster financial inclusion and support the digital economy.

This government-driven initiative was also designed to bring the advantages of e-payments to everyday transactions, particularly in markets, public transportation, and small businesses. The program focuses on adopting QR Ph, which serves as the national standard for quick response (QR) codes, allowing for a seamless and secure transfer of funds across different payment platforms.

Roxas City, Capiz Vice Mayor Teresa H. Almalbis expressed enthusiasm for the implementation of Paleng-QR Ph Plus, stating, “This technology will revolutionize the way we conduct market transactions in Roxas City. By integrating technology into the traditional market setting, we aim to create a more efficient, transparent, and consumer-friendly environment in the city.”

The adoption of Paleng-QR Ph Plus also aligns with the city government’s commitment to supporting local agriculture and enhancing the overall market experience for both buyers and sellers.

One of the standout features of the program is its emphasis on converting conventional cash-based transactions into digital payments, which benefits both consumers and merchants.

QR Ph offers an easy and reliable platform for merchants, tricycle drivers, and even market vendors to accept payments from customers directly through their mobile phones.

Through this initiative, the BSP is revolutionizing the way Filipinos transact by turning public markets, once cash-dependent, into thriving hubs of digital payment innovation.

Other key benefits of Paleng-QR Ph Plus

  • Enhanced Consumer Information: Consumers gain access to comprehensive information about the products they purchase, including origin, quality, and price. This empowers them to make informed decisions and choose products that meet their preferences and safety standards.
  • Improved Food Safety: By tracking the origin and quality of agricultural products, Paleng-QR Ph Plus helps to ensure food safety and prevent the spread of diseases.
  • Expanded Market Reach for Farmers: The platform provides farmers with a wider market reach by connecting them directly with consumers. This can help increase their income and improve their livelihoods.
  • Streamlined Market Operations: The digital system can streamline market operations by facilitating faster transactions and reducing paperwork.
  • Increased Transparency and Accountability: The system promotes transparency and accountability by providing a clear record of market transactions and product information.

Extensive training programs

During the event, the City Government of Roxas, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture (DA), has also undertaken extensive training programs for both market vendors and consumers to ensure the successful implementation of Paleng-QR Ph Plus. These training sessions cover various aspects of the system, including QR code scanning, data interpretation, and platform navigation.

The city government has also established a dedicated help desk to provide technical support and address any concerns or issues that may arise during the implementation process.

The adoption of Paleng-QR Ph Plus marks a significant step forward in modernizing local markets in Roxas City. This innovative technology is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy by improving market efficiency, enhancing food safety, and empowering both consumers and producers.
