PEZA, DTI Board of Investments choose Digital Pilipinas as promotions partner

Digital Pilipinas has recently been chosen as the inbound and outbound promotions partner by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)’s Board of Investments (BOI) and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).

As DTI’s inbound and outbound promotions partner, the main responsibility of Digital Pilipinas is to promote technology and other high-priority investment sectors for the current administration.

The signing of the collaboration agreement with PEZA was made in the presence of Aleem Siddiqui Guiapal, the economic zone’s officer-in-charge (OIC), deputy director general for finance and administration, and general manager for the promotions and public relations group, as well as Tereso Panga, the director general of PEZA, and Atty. Jose Antonio Aliling, managing partner of ACUBELAW.

“Our mandate is to bring the best of the investment world to the Philippines and the best of the Philippine technologies cross-border,” said Amor Maclang, the co-founder of the One ASEAN Fintech movement and convenor of Digital Pilipinas, during the signing of the agreement.

PEZA, a government organization, seeks to promote investments in the Philippines by establishing special economic zones that provide advantages to investors, especially for MSMEs.

For Digital Pilipinas’s team-up with the BOI, the agreement was witnessed by the members of the DTI-BOI, including Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo, Executive Directors Evariste Cagatan and Ma. Corazon Halili-Dichosa, as well as Director Lanie Dormiendo. For the private sector, the representatives were Maclang, Aliling, Dr. Alexander Titov of Astrolabe, GeiserMaclang CEO Brad Geiser, and Kersten Calimag of Digital Pilipinas.

PEZA’s most recent collaboration

The Philippine Mission in ASEAN likewise provided support for the event entitled, “Philippines: The Digital Bridgeway to ASEAN and the World,” which was held by PEZA last month in collaboration with Digital Pilipinas and Astrolabe.

The purpose of the event was to examine how the IT-BPO sector might make use of cutting-edge technologies like Web3 and AI to open up new business opportunities and transform the digital environment globally. The event took place on April 27, at the PEZA head office.

In November last year, Maclang also received recognition for her work in creating stronger cross-border relationships among the region’s fintech industry players. She became the first Filipino to ever earn the ASEAN Fintech Leader award when it was conferred to her at the Singapore Fintech Festival.

Last month, Digital Pilipinas and the British Embassy in Manila also launched the Southeast Asia Tech Week Philippines.

Following the event, Rafaelita Aldaba, DTI undersecretary for competitiveness and innovation, issued a challenge to all the participants to create 100 unicorns in the nation — small to medium enterprises that are not publicly traded and with at least US$1 billion market value.
