Planet, an Irish payments software provider, announced recently its collaboration with payment platform NomuPay, saying that the partnership would allow for a more unified payment scheme in hotels as well as food & beverage companies in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.

The two companies said that the partnership will allow NomuPay to offer an integrated payment platform ready for an expected 14% e-commerce growth in the next three years in countries like Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, and the Philippines.

“Consumer expectations have changed significantly over the past few years, so providing the best-connected commerce experience is now more crucial than ever,” explained Peter Burridge, CEO of NomuPay, in a press release.

“Through our partnership with Planet, we will enable hoteliers to deliver an excellent experience for their guests and take full advantage of the recovery in tourism after a challenging few years,” he added.

NomuPay’s platform will let hoteliers accept cards, bank and e-wallet payment options, as well as popular local alternative payment methods (APMs), buy now, pay later (BNPL) options, and instalment payment plans, through one integration.

Taking advantage of localized payment options

According to NomuPay’s latest research, merchants with localized payment choices generate 9% more revenue in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region on average than merchants that don’t offer these choices — and many merchants generate even more.

Speciality e-tailers that can provide localized payment options for customers in this region generate 22% more in regional revenue than those that do not offer localized payment options.

In contrast, just 13% of merchants in the U.S., the U.K., and Canada that sell to APAC customers offer localized wallets — in spite of these wallets’ importance to local shoppers.

Even more surprisingly, the research shows, only 1.8% of these merchants believe that APAC customers want to use such localized methods, and more than 25% incorrectly believe that APAC consumers prefer to use global credit and debit cards.

Planet’s partnership with NomuPay follows its combination in March with Proximis, Datatrans, protel Hotelsoftware and Hoist Group in an effort to boost digital commerce and add cloud software and payment solutions for the retail, hospitality, and financial services industry.
