Maya, the leading digital bank and financial technology company in the country, has just rolled out a new, game-changing feature that lets its users send and receive money in a more personal way — with their very own Maya @username.

In a press statement, Maya said the new service feature will make online money transfers personalized, convenient, and as easy as tagging family and friends on social media.

“The username is unique to each Maya account holder and the registration of a username will be on a first-come, first-served basis,” the statement added.

The new service feature also gives users the option for more secure, convenient, and safer money transfer transactions as users can now just use their @username when requesting payments.

With this feature, account holders now have a choice to just send in either their personal username or mobile number when requesting payments — no need to memorize and input 11-digit mobile numbers.

Maya has also partnered with Giphy to help users add a personal touch to their Send Money transactions. With the new service, Gen-Z and other younger-generation users can now throw in some GIF action to make their transactions cooler.

“We’re excited to be the country’s first digital bank to launch this feature as we continue to help Filipinos master their money and enable meaningful personalization,” said Pepe Torres, Chief Marketing Officer at Maya Philippines.

It’s a game-changer for safety and making our experience with sending money more fun, especially when you attach a GIF (graphics interchange format) to it,” he adds.

Earlier, another e-wallet provider, GCash, had unveiled a similar username anonymity feature where several letters of an account holder’s name can be hidden to further boost security.

Easier and hassle-free mode of payment

If you are a small business owner, this feature will come in handy as you can easily set up your store name as your account username for an easier and hassle-free mode of payment.

With Maya’s username feature, you can also choose to keep your personal data private such as your account name and mobile number. This feature is available for upgraded Maya app users, thus ensuring a more secure experience for the entire Maya community.

To set up your own Maya username, just tap on the “Profile” icon, click “Get Started” on the create a @username tab, then key in your preferred username and hit create. An OTP will be sent to confirm the changes.

To send money, just key in the recipient’s username, input the amount and tap “continue.”
