PayMaya Philippines Inc. (Maya), a subsidiary of Voyager Innovations Inc., welcomes the Lunar New Year with the launch of its person-to-merchant payments (P2M) platform using Quick Response (QR) codes in the Central Visayas region.

The Visayas launch begins in the province of Bohol, with Maya’s program intending to “empower the city government of Tagbilaran to assist public market vendors and tricycle drivers to accept cashless payments from any client via QR Ph, the nation’s standard for QR payments.”

In simple ceremonies presided over by representatives from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the local government of Tagbilaran City, Maya announced that the Tagbilaran City Public Market would be the very first recipient of its P2M platform using QR codes in Bohol province.

PayMaya’s new QR platform to offer more advanced banking services

PayMaya Enterprise Business Unit Head Mario M. Lazaro was quoted in a press release as saying, “Small businesses and Filipino consumers are not only enjoying a hassle-free payment experience for their daily transactions with [the] QR [platform] but also creating a financial footprint that allows them to access more advanced banking services offered by [the company].”

According to him, the company now uses the “Maya QR” in approximately 800,000 merchant touchpoints.

Lazaro asserts that with its introduction of QR Ph in 2019 for person-to-person (P2P) payments and in 2021 for person-to-machine (P2M) payments, his company has led financial institutions in the adoption of the national standard.

Lazaro said, “Basta QR Ph, pwede kami.” [If QR Ph, then we’re good.]

He added that the company’s “LGUs Embracing and Accelerating Digitalization (LEAD)” program includes creating ‘digi-palengkes’ throughout the country.

Lazaro adds that as part of the program, they are now working closely with local government units (LGUs) so they may encourage their own constituents as well as businesses operating in their respective localities to start considering digitizing their transactions using PayMaya’s “business-in-a-box” payment programs and disbursement capabilities.

Additionally, he asserts that Maya remains committed to serving as the Philippine economy’s “go-to partner.”

Paymaya Philippines (Maya) is currently the only end-to-end digital payments ecosystem enabler in the country, with platforms and services that cut across consumers, merchants, communities, as well as the government sector.

It now also provides more than 41 million Filipinos with access to financial services through its consumer platforms.
