Esports players, gigsters granted PA insurance policies at Esports and Creatives Industry Festival
Responding to the growing gig economy in the Philippines, which now boasts approximately 1.5 million freelancers on global online platforms, Etiqa Philippines has proactively addressed the insurance needs of diverse societal segments, especially emerging and underrepresented sectors.
During the Esports and Creative Industries Festival, organized by Digital Pilipinas as part of the Digital Pilipinas Festival x Festival of Festivals, Etiqa Philippines granted 50 Personal Accident insurance policies to esports players and creative economy gigsters.

Gladys Pascual, Head of Strategy and Transformation at Etiqa Philippines, presented the policies to Jako de Leon, President of the Creators and Influencers Council of the Philippines (CICP), representing creative economy gigsters, and Jab Escutin, Chief Operating Officer of BrenPro, Inc., representing esports players.
Pascual underscored Etiqa Philippines’ commitment to inclusivity by addressing the unique challenges faced by esports players and gig economy participants within the creative sector.
Utilizing technology, Etiqa Philippines aims to provide comprehensive insurance coverage tailored to various sectors’ needs, including esports enthusiasts and creative economy gigsters.
De Leon highlighted the lack of benefits and insurance coverage for freelancers, emphasizing the importance of support from both the private and government sectors. The CICP, dedicated to empowering creators and influencers, endeavours to address these challenges through initiatives and projects benefiting its members.
Amor Maclang, Convenor of Digital Pilipinas, praised the initiative for empowering talents in the creative and esports industries, fostering a resilient ecosystem conducive to innovation.
During the festival, Digital Pilipinas formed partnerships with De Leon and Escutin, focusing on cultural preservation and esports development, respectively.
Escutin expressed appreciation for the initiative, emphasizing its role in supporting Filipino esports athletes and promoting industry sustainability. The Digital Pilipinas Festival aimed to unite tech leaders, industry experts, and investors to explore technology’s potential in addressing the country’s challenges.
