Fujifilm Philippines is reaffirming its commitment to healthcare innovation by supporting the collaborative efforts of the Department of Health (DOH) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) in the Philippines.

Current data from the DOH indicates a daily mortality rate of approximately 106 Filipinos due to TB, a critical respiratory infection caused by mycobacteria.

A cornerstone of Fujifilm Philippines’ strategy in combating TB includes the deployment of its advanced FDR Xair, a compact X-ray machine designed for flexibility and precision. This technology is pivotal in identifying TB at its early stages, facilitating swift and accurate screenings in various environments.

The mobility of the FDR Xair has been instrumental in increasing the reach of diagnostic services, particularly in remote and underserved areas, thus helping to close the gaps in healthcare accessibility.

The FDR Xair is celebrated for its lightweight design and superior imaging quality, both of which are crucial in improving the effectiveness of TB screening processes. Its deployment is part of a broader initiative to revolutionize TB detection and management in regions where traditional healthcare infrastructure may not be available.

The initiative is in line with the objectives of USAID’s TB Innovations and Health Systems Strengthening project, managed by I-360, which aims to employ a comprehensive governmental strategy to manage TB prevention and cure.

Inaugural medical mission launched in Laguna

In 2023, Fujifilm Philippines launched its inaugural Medical Mission in Mayapa, Laguna, which included TB screenings using their state-of-the-art X-ray systems, the FDR Nano and FDR Go PLUS.

The company has announced plans to sustain these efforts annually, integrating the use of the FDR Xair to ensure ongoing community support.

By collaborating with community stakeholders, healthcare providers, and local organizations, Fujifilm ensures that its interventions are sensitive to cultural needs, equitable, and designed for long-term sustainability.

With TB cases on the rise, as evidenced by the DOH’s latest report of over 600,000 incidents as of December 31, 2023, Fujifilm Philippines recognizes the critical need to bolster TB detection.
