Lito Villanueva, the executive vice president, chief innovation and inclusion officer of Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC), attended the 10th anniversary of “London Tech Week” recently where he emphasized the growing importance of technology and the fintech industry on a global scale.

The London Tech Week, which was held this year at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in Westminster, is a worldwide occasion exhibiting the transformative potential of technology. It gathers the best minds and up-and-coming talent worldwide were asked to join in the discussions about innovation, diversity, and transformation.

Villanueva, who is acknowledged as the Philippines’ leading and award-winning thought leader on digital transformation and inclusive digital finance, and also the founder of FinTech Alliance.PH, participated in the event together with renowned business leaders and government representatives.

“As this historic week has successfully demonstrated, inspired action results from smart discussions and fruitful collaborations. Fintech can only expand exponentially if we all work together to strengthen a promising frontier of possibilities for financial technology to thrive on a global scale. We are positioned for success as long as this momentum depends on ongoing collaborations and inventiveness among market participants,” Villanueva said, as he expressed hope that such collaborations could give Filipinos more freedom to shape the digital future.

Villanueva also represented RCBC at the London IT Week event, where he expressed his enthusiasm for taking part in some of the conversations that took place during the event.

In spite of the COVID-19 pandemic, RCBC has remained the fifth-largest, privately-owned universal bank in the Philippines and is expected to surpass the P1 trillion asset mark by the end of June this year.
RCBC’s value and reach have been expanded considerably through its ongoing business and digital transformation.

Among the international and regional honors it received are a three-peat award from Asiamoney as the Philippines’ Best Bank for Digital, consecutive victories at The Asian Banker’s Financial Technology Innovations Awards for Best Financial Inclusion App, and the YouTube Challenger Award for its innovative and viral digital ad campaigns, which have amassed over 17 million views in total.

The Bankers Institute of the Philippines has also recognized RCBC as the Grand Champion for Digital Payments and Financial Inclusion.

With the hashtag #WagMagpalokoMagingScamAlerto, RCBC has started a multi-stakeholder national cybersecurity awareness and education campaign with the goal of protecting millions of Filipino smartphone and online users against phishing scams.

The National Bureau of Investigation, Philippine National Police, Securities and Exchange Commission, Insurance Commission, National Privacy Commission, National Telecommunications Commission, Department of Trade and Industry, telecommunications companies, consumer groups, and media are all partners in the industry-led multi-stakeholder national consumer cybersecurity campaign that is being run by FinTech Alliance.PH.
