Visa and Google Pay have relaunched a cashback promotion in the Philippines, giving eligible cardholders a chance to earn up to ₱1,500 cashback when they use participating Visa cards through Google Pay.

The promotion runs from September 8 to September 30, 2026, covering eligible purchases made through Google Pay both in physical stores and online. To qualify, cardholders must reach a minimum cumulative spend of ₱3,000 during the promotional period.

The campaign adds another incentive for Filipino consumers to use digital wallets for everyday purchases, as contactless and mobile payments continue to become part of the country’s evolving payments landscape.

How to qualify for the Visa Google Pay cashback

Eligible cardholders need to use a participating Visa card through Google Pay during the promotion period and accumulate at least ₱3,000 in qualifying purchases.

The spending requirement is cumulative, meaning consumers do not necessarily need to make a single ₱3,000 transaction. Eligible purchases can be combined until the required amount is reached, subject to the promotion’s terms and qualifying transaction rules.

Both in-store and online purchases made through Google Pay can count toward the spending requirement.

This gives cardholders flexibility in reaching the threshold, whether they use Google Pay for purchases at physical merchants that accept contactless payments or for eligible online transactions where Google Pay is available as a payment option.

Cashback can reach up to ₱1,500

Qualified cardholders can receive up to ₱1,500 cashback under the promotion.

However, meeting the ₱3,000 spending requirement does not necessarily mean every cardholder will automatically receive the maximum cashback amount. The cashback is subject to the specific promotional mechanics, eligibility requirements and applicable terms.

Cardholders should also make sure that they are using the eligible Visa card through Google Pay, rather than simply using the physical card.

Transactions made using the physical Visa card do not qualify for the promotion. Non-Visa payment methods are likewise excluded.

Physical Visa card transactions do not qualify

One of the key conditions of the campaign is that purchases must be made using an eligible Visa card through Google Pay.

Simply using the same Visa card as a physical card at a merchant will not count toward the promotion.

This distinction is important for consumers who regularly switch between their physical card and mobile wallet. A qualifying transaction needs to be processed through Google Pay for the purchase to be considered under the cashback campaign.

Similarly, transactions made through payment methods that are not participating Visa cards are excluded from the promotion.

The setup encourages cardholders to move their existing Visa spending into a digital wallet rather than simply increasing their overall card spending.

Cashback will be credited after transactions settle

Eligible cashback will not necessarily appear immediately after a qualifying purchase.

The cashback is expected to be credited within 30 days after the transaction settles through VisaNet.

This means cardholders may need to wait after the promotional period and transaction settlement before seeing the cashback reflected.

Consumers should therefore keep track of their eligible purchases and retain their transaction records until the cashback has been credited, particularly if they are close to the ₱3,000 cumulative spending threshold.

Promo runs until September 30

The Visa and Google Pay cashback promotion is available from September 8 through September 30, 2026.

With only a limited promotional period, cardholders who want to qualify need to complete their eligible spending within the campaign dates.

The ₱3,000 requirement applies to cumulative qualifying purchases made during the promo period, rather than spending completed before September 8.

Consumers should also check the applicable promotion terms for their specific participating Visa card, as eligibility and qualifying transaction conditions may vary.

Google Pay adds another push for contactless payments

The promotion comes as mobile wallets become increasingly important to how Filipinos make everyday payments.

Rather than requiring consumers to take out a physical card for every transaction, mobile wallets allow supported payment cards to be stored on a smartphone and used at compatible terminals or online checkouts.

For consumers who already have a participating Visa card, a cashback offer can make the transition to mobile payments more attractive.

The campaign also gives Visa and Google another opportunity to encourage consumers to use digital payment infrastructure beyond occasional purchases. By tying cashback to cumulative spending, the promotion encourages repeated use throughout the promotional period.

Cashback promotions can encourage digital payment habits

Cashback campaigns are increasingly being used by payment networks, banks, e-wallets and technology companies to encourage consumers to try or increase their use of digital payment channels.

The appeal is straightforward: consumers receive an immediate financial incentive for using a particular payment method, while payment providers can encourage greater engagement with their digital platforms.

For mobile payments, these promotions can also help consumers become more familiar with contactless transactions and digital wallet checkout flows.

Once consumers become accustomed to using their phones for payments, the convenience can potentially encourage continued usage even after a promotional campaign ends.

What cardholders should remember

For consumers planning to participate, the most important requirements are straightforward:

Use a participating Visa card through Google Pay, accumulate at least ₱3,000 in qualifying purchases during the September 8 to September 30 promo period, and make sure the transactions meet the campaign’s eligibility rules.

Purchases made using the physical Visa card do not qualify, while non-Visa payment methods are also excluded.

Cardholders should also remember that cashback is credited within 30 days after the transaction settles through VisaNet, so the reward may not appear immediately after reaching the spending requirement.

For Filipinos already using Google Pay, the promotion provides an opportunity to earn cashback while shifting more everyday spending to mobile payments. For consumers who have yet to use mobile wallets regularly, it also shows how payment networks are using rewards to encourage the move from physical cards toward digital transactions.

As contactless payments continue to expand, promotions like this could play a role in making mobile wallets a more familiar part of everyday spending in the Philippines.
