ZTE launches inaugural scholarship program in PH, honors 6 outstanding student-innovators

ZTE Corporation (0763.HK/000063.SZ), a global leader in integrated information and communication technology solutions, has launched its first-ever scholarship program in the Philippines, awarding scholarships to six exceptional students from leading universities nationwide.

This initiative, a key component of the company’s S.T.A.R. (Skills, Talent, Attitude, and Responsibility) Industry-Academe Linkage (IALP) Program, underscores the company’s commitment to nurturing talent and fostering innovation in the digital landscape.

The S.T.A.R. IALP Program, which was initiated in 2022 through a strategic cooperation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between ZTE, the University of Santo Tomas (UST), and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), aims to bridge the gap between industry and academia. The scholarship program is designed to cultivate emerging talents in telecommunications, with a strong emphasis on driving the digital economy forward.

Mr. Jin Zhi Chao, ZTE Philippines’ Chief Technology Officer, highlighted the company’s vision, saying, “This scholarship program is part of our broader commitment to cultivate young talents who will lead the next generation of telecommunications innovations.”

For his part, Mr. Liu Feng, ZTE Philippines’ HR Director, highlighted the program’s significance as a cornerstone of industry-academe partnerships, stating, “We are proud to expand our talent pool through collaborations with various educational institutions in the Philippines.”

The partnering universities have warmly received the initiative, with UST and PUP expressing heartfelt appreciation for the company’s support during challenging times.

UST Vice-Rector for Finance and Faculty of Engineering Regent, Rev. Fr. Roberto L. Luanzon, O.P., SThD, DL, remarked, “This scholarship is a beacon of hope during these challenging times. We are sincerely thankful for ZTE’s support, which fosters global cooperation and mutual growth.”

Similarly, Director Ana Publico, PECE, LPT, of the PUP Office of Scholarship and Financial Assistance (OFSA), praised the partnership’s impact on the holistic development and academic excellence of the scholars.

The scholarship recipients also shared their inspiring stories, showcasing the transformative power of the program.

Euneez Lara, a ZTE-UST scholar, described the program as a pivotal moment in her life while Marc Distor, a graduating Electrical Engineering student from UST, expressed relief that the scholarship alleviated his family’s financial burdens.

Mikhail Camacho, a graduating Electronics Engineering student from PUP, spoke of the renewed focus and determination the scholarship instilled in him.

Carlos Gomez, a PUP scholar, voiced his enthusiasm for the future, inspired by the IT company’s support. Rose Dela Cruz, also from PUP, highlighted how the scholarship helped boost her confidence and commitment to excellence.

Jessie Co, a graduating BS Civil Engineering student from UST, expressed optimism about the future and a desire to give back to the community. He also shared his eagerness to pay it forward through impactful community contributions and academic achievements.

The recent meet-and-greet was a celebration of talent, dedication, and partnership which provided a platform for scholars and university representatives to connect with leadership, fostering mutual understanding and collaboration.
