Students develop real-world solutions at Byte Forward to help SMEs thrive in a connected economy
The Byte Forward Hackathon 2025 concluded on a high note as young Filipino innovators showcased their creativity and technical prowess during the Grand Finals of the 51st Philippine Business Conference and Expo (PBC&E) held at SMX Convention Center.

Jointly organized by Converge ICT Solutions Inc. and Rev21 Labs, in partnership with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), the nationwide hackathon gathered student teams from across the country to develop digital solutions addressing real-world business challenges.
From over 200 participants across five regional rounds, 15 finalists made it to the national stage — demonstrating how Filipino creativity and technology can shape a smarter, more connected economy.
“In launching the Byte Forward Hackathon 2025, we wanted to partner with the largest economic force in the country — our SMEs,” said Ron Puno, CEO of Rev21 Labs. “They drive so much of our economy and we believe that once we connect these businesses to strong digital infrastructure, they’ll have the power to ideate, build, and innovate. Over the last six months, through our partnership with PCCI, we’ve seen this play out.”
Empowering solutions for small businesses

Team TECHMEHOW2DOUGIE from DLSU-Manila clinched the grand winner title with Caya, an AI-powered inventory assistant that empowers SMEs to make smarter, data-driven restocking decisions
After rounds of pitching and live demos, Team TECHMEHOW2DOUGIE from De La Salle University Manila emerged as the Grand Winner for their project Caya, an AI-powered inventory assistant designed to help small business owners make smarter restocking decisions.
Project Caya automatically evaluates product profitability, negotiates with suppliers, and initiates restocking — or recommends cutting back — helping entrepreneurs make data-driven choices without the complexity of managing large datasets.
“I would really encourage aspiring developers to join hackathons because you learn so much from the experience,” said Christina Sijera, one of the winning team members. “There’s no major risk if you don’t win, but there’s so much to gain — opportunities, growth, and learning.”
Her teammate Brendan Castillo added, “Don’t let fear get in the way. Anyone can think of a great idea, but it’s easy to doubt if it’s really doable. You’ll never know until you try.”

Team K-MAS from the University of the Philippines – Mindanao took home second place
Team K-MAS from the University of the Philippines – Mindanao placed second, while Team CABUYAO from the University of Cabuyao secured third place. Each team showcased innovative projects that underscored the vast potential of Filipino talent to develop impactful digital tools for businesses.
Building the next generation of tech leaders
Beyond the competition, the hackathon included workshops, mentorship sessions, and networking activities that connected participants with industry professionals and business leaders. The event highlighted how collaboration between education, technology, and business can drive digital transformation in the Philippines.
“The Byte Forward Hackathon reflects our belief that Filipino innovators have the creativity and drive to transform communities through technology,” said Dennis Anthony Uy, CEO of Converge ICT Solutions and Chairman of the 51st PBC&E. “By supporting programs like this, we’re helping bridge digital gaps and empowering the next generation to lead in the country’s digital transformation.”

PCCI President Consul Enunina V. Mangio added, “Empowering young developers to build real solutions not only strengthens local businesses but also supports our shared goal of inclusive, technology-driven growth. This kind of collaboration is what truly moves the nation forward.”
As part of Converge SME Solutions’ broader initiative, Byte Forward underscores the company’s commitment to building a resilient digital economy — where technology, fintech, and connectivity converge to create opportunities for growth and innovation across sectors.
