Officially opened on August 30, the new center in Quezon City represents a significant step in Thermo Fisher’s commitment to supporting the healthcare and biotech industries with enhanced financial and customer services.

As an integral addition to Thermo Fisher’s global network of over 1,600 colleagues, it joins five other Shared Service centers worldwide, further solidifying the company’s role as a central hub for delivering essential services to customers globally.

The strategic location in Quezon City is particularly advantageous, as the city has recently aligned with the Philippine government’s Digital Payments Transformation Roadmap (DPTR), promoting digitalization and financial inclusion across the country.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Thermo Fisher Scientific executives were joined by representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), underscoring the strategic importance of the Philippines in the company’s global operations.

The new GBSC will initially employ 100 individuals, with plans to expand the workforce to over 450 by the end of 2026. This expansion aligns with Thermo Fisher’s broader mission of advancing science while contributing to the local economy and workforce development.

Konrad Bauer, Senior Vice President at Thermo Fisher Scientific, highlighted the company’s dedication to advancing science and supporting local research during his opening speech.

“Thermo Fisher is committed to being a reliable partner in the Philippines and the wider Asia-Pacific region,” said Konrad Bauer, Senior Vice President of Global Business Services at Thermo Fisher Scientific. “This new site represents a significant expansion of our extensive global network of Global Business Services Centers. With this growth, we are strategically positioned to enhance our capabilities that enable our customers’ important work.”

In his speech, Bauer also emphasized the company’s dedication to advancing science and supporting local research initiatives during his opening speech. He highlighted how the new GBSC would play a crucial role in Thermo Fisher’s mission to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer by providing essential services to healthcare and biotech customers.

Thermo Fisher’s expanding presence in the region is a testament to its commitment to supporting customers through comprehensive solutions in various sectors, including biotech, healthcare, clean energy, and environmental monitoring. The company’s decision to establish a new GBSC in the Philippines reflects its confidence in the country’s skilled workforce and robust infrastructure.

“Thermo Fisher’s expansion in the Philippines demonstrates our continued commitment to expand our regional footprint to better support our customers,” said Sho-Wen Yeo, Vice President and General Manager of Southeast Asia & Taiwan for Thermo Fisher Scientific. “With the Philippines’ skilled workforce and robust infrastructure, the new GBSC will continue to nurture top talent and function as an integrated hub to serve global customers.”

Thermo Fisher’s decision to invest in the Philippines comes on the heels of the company’s recent recognition on the FORTUNE 500 list of the largest U.S. companies. This accolade, along with other prestigious honors such as Forbes America’s Best Employers for New Grads, Time World’s Most Sustainable Companies, and Forbes America’s Best Employers 2024, highlights the company’s commitment to excellence and sustainability.

As Thermo Fisher continues to expand its operations in the Asia-Pacific region, the new GBSC in Quezon City is poised to play a critical role in delivering financial and customer services that support the company’s mission. By leveraging the Philippines’ skilled workforce and strategic location, Thermo Fisher is well-positioned to meet the growing demands of its global customer base while contributing to the local economy.
