“There’s more to Coins.ph than trading”: An interview with Amira Alawi, Coins.ph Global Marketing Director

The fintech landscape in the Philippines is evolving rapidly, and users expect more than single-purpose apps. Coins.ph, the platform that introduced millions of Filipinos to crypto, is now going beyond that: financial superapp that integrates payments, remittance, trading, and web3 utility in one platform.

By combining traditional financial infrastructure with blockchain innovation, Coins.ph delivers fast, low-cost, and highly accessible financial services giving users one trusted place to manage money, whether at home or abroad.

FintechNewsPH sat down with Coins.ph Global Marketing Director Amira Alawi, who is helping lead the company’s superapp evolution. Her approach is centered on clearer value, stronger execution, and practical benefits users can feel: faster remittances powered by stablecoins, simplified earning tools, lifestyle-aligned rewards, and seamless payments that’s backed by regulatory compliance.

Below is the full transcript of our Q and A:

Q: Coins.ph is often associated with crypto trading. What’s changing now?

A: Coins.ph has long been seen primarily as a trading app, but in reality, it’s much more than that. Today, users can do everything in one platform — send and receive money, pay bills, top up mobile phones, earn rewards, invest, and even pay for everything from their coffee to a dinner date without off ramping. They can also participate in web3 product suites like DeFi-based rewards, in a simple and secure way.

The vision is to create a true financial superapp, where all financial activities, whether traditional or digital, are handled seamlessly, securely, and in one place.

Q: What does “superapp” mean for Coins.ph?

A:  For us, “superapp” isn’t just about feature count—it’s about creating one integrated financial ecosystem. Users should be able to move money, earn, spend, and participate in web3 without needing multiple apps.

Key pillars include:

  • Local and international remittances
  • Bills payment and everyday QRPH spending
  • Trading
  • Web3 utilities and earning
  • Rewards that connect the whole experience

We’re also rolling out major UI/UX improvements, cleaner navigation, and a more intuitive design. The goal is straightforward: make money movement and digital participation easier and faster for everyone.

Q: Coins.ph often talks about financial inclusion. What does that look like in practice?

A: Financial inclusion is more than a narrative for us. In practical terms, it means giving people real access to tools that make managing money easier, faster, and more affordable. That includes low-cost remittances powered by stablecoins, everyday payments in a single app, micro-investing options, and simplified web3 earning products that anyone can participate in.

It’s also about removing the barriers that traditionally keep people out of the financial system — high fees, complicated processes, and products that assume too much prior knowledge. We focus on clear language, intuitive design, and experiences shaped around actual user behavior, not assumptions.

Q: Coins.ph has grown into one of the most recognized financial platforms in the Philippines. What’s guiding the company’s guiding vision for the next 18 months?

A: We’re pioneering something that hasn’t existed at scale in Southeast Asia: a unified experience where payments, transfers, earning tools, and digital assets all work seamlessly in one place.

Expect us to keep pushing the boundary of what a financial platform can be with a users-first focus giving our users access to faster payments, smarter earning tools, and a digital experience that feels unified rather than fragmented.

We’re not just improving features. We’re building the infrastructure that shapes how people move money for the next decade.

Q: What new product suites are you expanding into, both locally and globally?

A: We’re expanding across the full spectrum of everyday finance, connecting traditional money movement with digital opportunitieWe’re expanding Coins.ph to cover the full spectrum of everyday finance, connecting traditional money movement with digital opportunities.

  • International Money Movement – Faster remittances and improved FX efficiency.
  • Everyday Financial Services – Practical features for top-ups, QRPH payments, bill pay, rewards, and daily spending, all integrated into a smooth, frictionless experience.
  • Web3 Utility & Earning – Simple, secure tools like Launchpool, designed to be accessible and fully compliant.

Globally, we’re strengthening partnerships with key strategic partners, stablecoin providers, and cross-border payment networks to make it easier and more transparent to move, earn, and spend money across markets.

This expansion isn’t just about new features, it’s about creating a platform that lets users manage money efficiently, safely, and seamlessly wherever they are.

Q: What’s next for Coins.ph in the near future?

A: You’ll see a more unified ecosystem: deeper integrations between payments, remittances, web3 tools, rewards, and everyday spending.

You’ll also see expansion both in product offerings and market reach. Our goal is to make Coins.ph a platform that’s valuable whether you’re in the Philippines, working abroad, or participating in global digital economies.
