Google introduces Gemini ‘Personal Intelligence’ to simplify digital life

For years, digital planning has often felt like a chore. Whether organizing a family vacation or searching for a specific memory, people have had to act as “human routers” — constantly switching between email tabs, photo galleries, and maps just to get things done.

Google aims to change that with a major update to Gemini, announcing the launch of “Personal Intelligence,” a new approach to AI designed to help users manage daily tasks by organizing and processing information across their favorite Google apps.

Unlike traditional AI systems that rely solely on information available on the internet, Personal Intelligence is built to understand users’ personal digital worlds.

By securely connecting with apps such as Gmail, Google Photos, and YouTube, Gemini becomes a more specialized assistant tailored to individual needs and preferences.

The update is designed to simplify everyday activities, including travel planning. Instead of searching through multiple emails for flight confirmations or scrolling through years of photos to recall a favorite restaurant, users can ask Gemini for assistance.

The AI can reference travel dates from Gmail, infer personal preferences from photos saved in Google Photos, and generate a cohesive, personalized itinerary that aligns with a user’s style and schedule.

Alongside these convenience features, the company emphasized that Personal Intelligence was developed with a privacy-first approach. The feature is optional and turned off by default, giving users full control over which apps they choose to link.

Chat history can be deleted at any time, and users can decide whether to connect only select services, such as Gmail, or include others like YouTube to receive more tailored recommendations.

Personal Intelligence is currently in beta and has begun rolling out to eligible Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the United States. Google said it plans to expand availability to more countries, languages, and eventually to the free tier in the near future.
