Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Eli M. Remolona, Jr. received an Honorary Fellowship from the Asian Institute of Chartered Bankers (AICB) during the 8th Chartered Banker Conferment held in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia on May 24, 2025.
The AICB’s Honorary Fellowship, one of the institute’s highest distinctions, recognizes exceptional individuals who have made transformative contributions to the banking and financial services industry.

In his acceptance message, BSP Governor Remolona expressed gratitude for the honor and underscored the collective spirit of progress it represents.
“I accept this fellowship, not just a personal honor – and what an honor it is – but as a reminder of what we can accomplish together. The future of finance is regional, and AICB fellows in today’s honorees are leading the way. I’m proud to join your ranks,” the BSP governor said.
BSP Governor lauded for transformative leadership, enduring impact

AICB Chairman Tan Sri Azman Hashim, in his welcome address, lauded the BSP Governor’s leadership, saying, “Governor Remolona’s transformative contributions in modernizing banking, shaping policy, and driving digital efforts have strengthened financial stability in the Philippines and fostered ASEAN integration, underscoring his impactful leadership.”
AICB Chief Executive Officer Edward Ling, in his conferment speech, commended the BSP Governor. “We express our sincere gratitude to you for your sterling dedication and invaluable service to society at large. The title of Honorary Fellow serves as a commendation of your intellect, integrity, and enduring impact, the hallmarks of a true statesman, a man for all seasons.”
Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Dato’ Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour also recognized the Governor’s contributions. “Today’s honorary conferment recognizes your exemplary leadership, transformative contributions, and excellence within our profession.”
Decades of impact in Asian banking and global financial excellence
The award holds special relevance for Governor Remolona, who previously served as a professor of finance and director of central banking at the Asia School of Business in Kuala Lumpur from 2019 to 2022.
He also made significant contributions to banking and finance in Asia as the Chief Representative for Asia and the Pacific of the Bank for International Settlements from 2008 to 2018.
In 2024, Governor Remolona was honored as one of the world’s top-performing central bank governors, earning an “A-” rating in Global Finance magazine’s 2024 Central Banker Report Cards. This prestigious recognition places the Governor among an elite group of central bank leaders globally, underscoring his significant contributions to stabilizing the Philippine economy and advancing the country’s banking system.
The AICB, based in Malaysia, is a professional body committed to elevating the standards of the banking industry through education, certification, and the promotion of ethical practice.
