Breaking away from the online norm, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) recently held an “in-person” Cashless Expo at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.
This format was made to enable attendees to network and engage face-to-face, fostering meaningful connections within the industry. Another goal of the event is to revolutionize the way Filipinos make payments by inviting individuals and professionals from various sectors to explore the transformative potential of digital payments.

To align with the event’s cashless theme, an on-site payment of P100 was required upon entry, with the organizers accepting digital payment methods to showcase a smooth and efficient transaction process.
The expo, which was jointly organized by the BSP and DTI together with the Department of Agriculture (DA), brought together micro-, small-, and medium-scale enterprise exhibitors and buyers under one roof to promote digital payment transactions through QR Ph, the Philippine standard for QR technology.
Aside from QR Ph, buyers could also use other digital payment instruments, such as credit cards.
“A true culmination of our efforts is to bring this expo outside the World Trade Center and into everyday life,” Deputy Governor Tangonan said during the event.
The project is in line with BSP’s Digital Payments Transformation Roadmap (DPTR), which aims to convert 50 per cent of the country’s total monthly retail payments volume into digital form and to onboard at least 70 per cent of Filipino adults into the formal financial system by end-2023. Trends have shown that the economy is poised to meet the targets under the DPTR.
