Executives of PalawanPay and members of the UP Fighting Maroons strike a pose after the fintech firm renewed its commitment to the UP Fighting Maroons, highlighting partnership and shared purpose

PalawanPay renews UP partnership, strengthens shared commitment to teamwork and growth

PalawanPay, the e-wallet arm of the Palawan Group of Companies, has renewed its partnership with the UP Fighting Maroons, reaffirming a shared commitment to excellence, perseverance, and teamwork both on and off the court.

The renewed alliance was celebrated in a symbolic ceremony that underscored the enduring relationship between the financial services company and the University of the Philippines’ men’s basketball team.

The event featured the ceremonial turnover of UP x PalawanPay shirts — a gesture that captured the unity and shared purpose between the two institutions.

PalawanPay stands by Maroons through every challenge

Palawan Group CFO Lilian Castro-Selda commends the UP Fighting Maroons for their relentless drive and discipline, qualities that inspire Palawan Group’s mission to serve with purpose and passion.

Palawan Group Chief Financial Officer Lilian Castro-Selda expressed pride in continuing the partnership, noting that the company’s support goes beyond victories.

“We’re proud to celebrate your wins, but what matters most is that our support remains constant, whether you win or lose,” she said.

“We admire the team’s drive to keep improving and the discipline to grow stronger with every game. That same spirit inspires us at Palawan Group to stay humble, work harder, and make a meaningful difference — not just for our customers, but for the country,” she further stated.

PalawanPay renewed its commitment to the UP Fighting Maroons, highlighting partnership and shared purpose in their pursuit of excellence.

The celebration also featured messages of appreciation from UP coaches and PalawanPay executives, highlighting mutual respect and alignment of values. A ceremonial ball shooting and shirt-giving activity followed, fostering camaraderie among players, coaches, and corporate partners.

UP Coach Patrick Tancioco thanked PalawanPay for its unwavering support through the years.

“Palawan Group has been with us every step of the way,” he said. “Their support goes beyond financial assistance — it’s the genuine care, time, and encouragement that truly make a difference.”

A partnership rooted in shared values

Since 2019, the Palawan Group of Companies — led by founders Bobby and Angelita Castro and their five children, all UP alumni — has been a consistent supporter of the UP Fighting Maroons. Their partnership extends beyond sponsorships, fostering mentorship and long-term engagement with the team.

The alliance has been marked by several milestone events, including PalawanPay’s participation in the “Sugod, UP! UAAP Season 88 Pep Rally” and the Champions’ Thanksgiving Dinner held in December 2024 at UP Diliman to celebrate the Maroons’ UAAP Season 87 championship.

As the UP Fighting Maroons continue their UAAP Season 88 campaign, PalawanPay remains a steadfast partner — cheering the team on as a symbol of perseverance, discipline, and unity.

“PalawanPay’s partnership with the UP Fighting Maroons isn’t just about sports sponsorship,” Castro-Selda added. “It’s about empowering young Filipinos to dream big, work hard, and stay grounded in their purpose.”
